Draftees warned: We will track you down
Men who have been called up for Bermuda Regiment service have been warned to show up at Warwick Camp next month or face being arrested.
The Regiment has issued a list of 607 Bermudians who must report to the camp on October 10 and 11 for medical examination to see if they are fit for service. Their names were drawn through a ballot system from a pool of 904 men between the ages of 18 and 23. They have all been sent registered letters.
According to Defence Administrator Larry Burchall, those who cannot attend for reasons such as being overseas must let the Regiment know. Those who don't turn up will be enlisted in their absence and become liable to arrest by the Regiment.
"In the past, we have plucked a man off a charter plane. It's embarrassing and inconvenient to be arrested," warned Mr. Burchall, urging those on the list to make their lives easier by showing up.
The next Boot Camp for regiment recruits will begin in January.
