Senators wasted no time when they met yesterday morning, finishing business in under an hour.

The extra meeting was held in an effort to get all the legislation that the House of Assembly has debated to date into law.

The quick session was easily achieved as senators agreed on most of the legislation brought before them. But they will still meet tomorrow in a session they expect to finish by late afternoon.

On tomorrow's agenda are: the National Pensions Scheme (Occupational Pensions) Amendment Act 1999, the Commission on Unity and Racial Equality Amendment Act 1999, the Abolition of Capital and Corporal Punishment Act 1999, and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bermuda Amendment Act 1999.

Passed were the Prohibition of Importation of Gaming Equipment Act 1999, The Bermuda Monetary Authority Amendment Act 1999 and 14 private members bills.

Government will now be able to carry out necessary repairs to the railway trail in Southampton, as Senators approved the acquisition of four plots of land.

As a safety precaution the section of the railway trail in Southampton has been closed for several months. As a result organisers of the annual end-to end walk were forced to change the route earlier this year.

Senate President Alf Oughton , while inquiring as to the cost of the project, noted the importance of the work.

"I do remember that in the 1960's part of the cliff side collapsed and killed three children,'' he said, "and but for the grace of God one of them would have been my son because he always played with that group of children.'' Senators also approved the sale of two pieces of property to landowners to provide access to their estates.

On the South Shore in Warwick .348 acres was sold for $105,000 and on Happy Valley Road in Devonshire .036 acres was sold for $47,500.
