Best names new-look tour squad

coach Clyde Best to look at other players has brought about changes in the Bermuda soccer team which travels to the French island of St. Martin today for a short two-match tour.

Six changes in all have been made to the team which travelled to Jamaica recently for the Shell/Umbro qualifier, with the unavailability of Gary Darrell forcing Best to choose a new assistant coach in Mark Trott.

Missing from the squad is the injured Dwight Warren while Lionel Furbert, Michael Hansey, Clifford Roberts, Carlos Smith and Troy Hall are among those unavailable. Included in the list of 18 players are newcomers Shannon Burgess of Devonshire Colts, PHC pair Dano Outerbridge and Stanton Lewis, Chris Sabir of Hotels, Devarr Boyles of Dandy Town and St. David's striker Keith Jennings.

The BFA are responsible for airfare to the Caribbean and some of the $100,000 in sponsorship money received from Centre Re will cover that cost. The host association will take care of accommodation and transportation. The opening match against St. Martin will be tomorrow evening (7.30) and the second game on Sunday at 4.30 p.m.

"Although they are there for no international competition, they are part of the rebuilding of the programme and that means playing foreign opposition and getting a look at the players and being in an environment that you can't get via domestic football,'' said BFA general secretary David Sabir who will travel with the team as head of delegation.

The team return on Monday.
