Warships pay visits

In honour of the Island's 400th Anniversary, crew from aboard the British Royal Navy Type 42 destroyer HMS Manchester took part in a re-enactment ceremony.

On Somers Day, July 28, 30 crew members participated in the re-enactment of the wreck of the Sea Venture in St. George's. This was just one activity planned for the ship's short visit.

According to Meyer Shipping agent Joe Simas, the vessel arrived into Hamilton on July 28 at 9.30 a.m. and left at 3.30 p.m. on July 30. Though the warship was open to visitors during its stay, it was primarily on the Island for rest and relaxation.

Canadian Navy coastal defence vessel HMCS Moncton arrived in Hamilton on July 31 at 5.20 p.m. The vessel, which left yesterday morning at 10 a.m., was also on the Island for rest and relaxation.

The charter vessel Smaragd Voyage 1511 arrived on the Island on Monday from Port Elizabeth, New Jersey. It was carrying 169 dry containers and 43 refers, including three road trailers and a boat.

The Bermuda Islander cargo ship is expected to arrive in Hamilton tomorrow at 8.05 a.m. It will remain at No. 8 Dock until its departure on Friday morning. The vessel is carrying 149 containers, including 28 refers and six flatracks.
