Trade centre bombing to come under spotlight at Bermuda conference

A property loss adjuster with worldwide experience in adjusting multi-million dollar losses, including the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, is to deliver an address at the Bermuda Insurance Institute (BII) luncheon at the The Club on Thursday.

Edward R. Reilly's topic at the luncheon will be: Loss Adjustments and Legal Challenges to the World Trade Center Explosion.

Mr. Reilly, of Edward R. Reilly & Co., Inc. in New York, is here for the annual conference of The international Institute of Loss Adjusters at the Southampton Princess Hotel.

About 80 people are attending the conference which began yesterday and ends on Friday. The participants arrived here from a number of countries including New Zealand, Australia, Italy, United Arab Emirates, Germany, the US, Canada and countries in South and Central America.

Mr. Reilly's presentation at the BII's monthly luncheon on Thursday will include a discussion on the cause and origin investigation of the shocking bombing, the apprehension and trail of the perpetrators, the adjustment process and policy wording.

A US Navy war veteran, Mr. Reilly served as communications officer on a destroyer Escort during the Korean War before joining his father's 19-year old claims adjusting firm in 1953.

Today, Mr. Reilly adjusts major property losses and contributes time to the Property Loss Research Bureau and the National Forum of Property Loss Adjusters as a member of its advisory board.

He has been involved in the adjustment of multi-million dollar losses throughout the US, Canada, the Caribbean, South America and the Far East. He was involved in work after the New York Telephone Co. fire in 1975 and the Steel Pier fire in Atlantic City in 1982.

He has handled major telephone company losses in Venezuela and Arkansas, earthquake claims in California, land erosion claims in Arizona, riot losses in Trinidad, major hotel losses in the Virgin Islands, and many other occurrences including product recall and product liability cases.
