accidents reported on Longbird Bridge in St. George's.

Works Minister Alex Scott issued an appeal to road users to be cautious after the wet weather made the bridge slippery.

He said: "The morning rain made the bridge very slippery, so I am advising all motorists to proceed with caution when they cross the bridge in the rain.'' Police said one accident involved a Suzuki van which lost control on the south side of the bridge, and flipped on to its roof. The driver suffered only minor injuries.

The other incidents involved motorcycles on the bridge itself, according to the Minister.

He said because it had not rained for a while, when the storm came it brought oil in the tarmac to the surface -- making the conditions dangerous.

Engineers were out at the site yesterday, cleaning it up and removing any oil.

The road surface was replaced during the summer.
