Scott Barnes continued his superb early season form during weekend go-kart racing at Southside Raceway.The seasoned driver posted five wins in two separate classes to cap another dominant display at the East End race track.He swept all three heats in the TAG Senior Class which he trails behind points leader David Barbosa by 29 points. Barnes also won two of the three heats contested in the 125cc Shifter Class to remain on top of the points standings with a 60 point cushion over nearest rival Stephen Corrado.“I still can’t finish a perfect day of winning all of the races but it was another good race day,” he said. “The TAG Class was pretty competitive and I finished with high points for the day which was good.”The fast improving Corrado had three podium finishes in the 125cc Shifter Class that included a win in the first heat after Barnes’ kart experienced mechanical trouble. He also managed three seconds in the TAG Senior Class to underline his consistency.“Stephen has really stepped up his driving and this is his first year racing in the TAG Class,” Barnes added. “He led most of the first race and I was able to pass him with two or three laps to go.“The other races were not easy but I had pretty comfortable leads. Skuzzie (mechanic Jason North) has my karts running and tuned pretty good so it’s just a matter of driving and hitting my marks.”Owen DeCosta was the top driver in the Junior Stock Class (10-15 years) with two wins and a third. He currently leads his respective class by four points over nearest rival Corey Lewis who also managed a win on Sunday.Junior Modified Clone Class (10-15 years) points leader Ryan Lopes had two wins to stretch his lead at the summit to 53 points over sole rival Zanardi Daley who managed one win at the weekend.Ryan Burgess is the sole driver in the Junior Stock Clone Class (7-10 years).Go-kart racing resumes December 9 at Southside Raceway.
