Vital win for battling Village
Patched-up Village turned in a battling performance to secure three hard-earned points against Wolves.
Missing six players they nevertheless put behind them last Sunday's dismal three defeat at the hands of Devonshire Colts and are firmly back on the pace.
Goals in each half from Tafari Outerbridge and Tarik Jennings secured the points, but Wolves made them fight all the way at Devonshire Rec.
Already without five players through a combination of road accidents and religious beliefs, coach Scott Morton also had to deal with a late no-show from Kevin Jennings.
Wolves were probably thinking this had to be their night and, indeed, they could have been a goal up inside the opening 60 seconds.
Chae Simmons slipped a delightful ball through to Nakia Smith, but although he beat the defence the prescence of 'keeper Zane Hendrickson put him off and he placed his shot wide of the post.
Village made him pay with 10 minutes on the clock.
Calvin (Patches) Dill picked up the ball 25 yards out after excellent work by Sergio Goater and fired in stinging drive which was too hot for Corbin Durrant to hold. The 'keeper spilled the ball and Outerbridge was in the right place to pick up the pieces.
The match was being played at a frenetic pace and chances came at both ends.
Hendrickson did well to scramble away a header from Simmons and then a free-kick from Dill flew just over the Wolves bar.
Nathan Webb had a chance to net the equaliser just after the break, but after rounding the 'keeper he came across the immaculate Kentoine Jennings who cleared the ball for a corner.
Durrant had to tip over a long distance lob from Tarik Jennings and then Village's Arthur Simons did well to clear off the line when Simmons' shot looked destined for the net.
Mark Ray then beat the offside trap but his failure to bring the ball under control quickly allowed Village to regroup and effect the clearance.
With nine minutes left Village wrapped up the points through Jennings' exquisite effort.
With no support he ran from just inside the Wolves half, beat off two defenders before lobbing the on-rushing 'keeper as he fell under pressure from another challenge.
