Police said one of the players, also a doctor, gave first aid but was unable to save him. The man was pronounced dead at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital a short time later.

Meanwhile, a cruise ship passenger died after suffering a heart attack on board on Friday night.

The unidentified man fell ill around 10.30 aboard the Veendam , berthed at Dockyard. He was declared dead in the ship's hospital unit around 11 p.m.

PERINCHIEF'S CONDITION IMPROVES HTH AC Perinchief's condition improves Burns victim Carlton Perinchief's condition at a Baltimore hospital has improved enough for him to be taken out of intensive care and into a special ward.

Last night a spokeswoman at Johns Hopkins Hospital's burns unit said he is in good condition and had been placed in the "step down'' ward before going into a general ward soon.

Mr. Perinchief, 37, of Crest View Road, Smith's, suffered 90 percent burns in a stove blast in early August.

A decision will be made in the near future as to whether he will receive rehabilitation in Bermuda or in the United States.

PEDESTRIAN IN BUS COLLISION AC Pedestrian in bus collision Traffic Police are investigating after a man was injured in a collision with a bus yesterday.

The victim was taken to hospital after the accident on Middle Road, Southampton, near White's supermarket at around 5.15 p.m.

His injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

Meanwhile, an 84-year-old woman was hurt after slipping off a Front Street pavement yesterday at lunchtime.

The visitor, a cruise ship passenger, was taken to hospital after the incident near the horse-and-carriage stands. She was thought to have suffered only minor injuries.
