Stars set to come out after dark . . .

Mental images conjured up by the words 'Some Enchanted Evening' usually include moonlit and starry nights, romance, and even the musical 'South Pacific', but for aficionados of the Bermuda School of Music's annual concerts of that name, the association is of a varied musical programme which includes favourites from the world of classical music, opera and 'evergreens'.

Tonight's event, the 13th in the series, and entitled 'Music After Dark', will be different. This time the programme will celebrate the music one might hear when out on the town, which fits perfectly with the ambiance of the concert's setting – the Fairmont Southampton's Mid Ocean Amphitheatre. Participating artists include Heather Nova, Joy T. Barnum, and BSM faculty members David France and Louise Southwood, and the Bermuda School of Music Jazz Ensemble, while 'Not the Um Um' legend Bruce Barritt will emcee.

The programme will open with guitarist and vocalist Chris Broadhurst performing 'Everybody's Turning' from the Broadway musical 'I Love My Wife'; 'Summer's Here' by James Taylor; the old English love poem 'Cotswold Love'; and 'Rain', a Broadhurst original.

He will be followed by Ms Southwood (guitar) and Mr. France (violin) playing 'Suite Buenos Aires'.

Vocalist Ms Barnum and her band The Channel (Michael MacPhee, guitar, and Milton Raposo piano) will then perform various acoustic selections from their repertoire.

Presenting the great classics 'Lulu's Back in Town', 'Round Midnight', 'Billy's Bounce' and 'Caravan' will be the Bermuda School of Music Jazz Ensemble, featuring Conrad Roach (trumpet), Clarence Burrows (bass), Raymond George (piano), and Shelton Bean (drums).

Bermudian and international performing artist Ms Nova, with cellist Caroline Eaton, will end the programme with a selection of her original compositions.

Throughout the evening desserts, tea and coffee will be served at the tables.

There will also be a silent auction of various items including a golf package, gift baskets, original paintings, and two-night stays at the Fairmont Southampton (with dinner), and Rosemont Guest Suites.

Curtain time is 8 p.m. Tickets – patrons $100, adults $40, children $15 –- are available from the Bermuda School of Music, C-Travel and www.bdatix.bm

The event is hosted by the Bermuda School of Music (BSM), a registered charity, in collaboration with Partner Re, as part of its vision of bringing 'musical excellence for all', and with the hope that its students and the wider community will experience the excitement of live music.

Some Enchanted Evening is the School's annual major fund-raiser, with all proceeds of ticket sales and the silent auction going towards bursaries for students in financial need.
