Salsa band to play at PLP fundraiser

Premier Jennifer Smith could be shaking her stuff on Sunday night at a special fundraiser with the Cuban all-girl band D'Talle.

Club Azure will host a Progressive Labour Party fund raiser which could bring in thousands of dollars for the ruling party.

Entertainment manager Glenn Blakeney said invitations had gone out to the Premier, her Cabinet and the whole of the PLP.

And to show how all-encompassing his club is, Mr. Blakeney has also extended the invitation to the United Bermuda Party for the night.

"We are delighted to be playing at the fundraiser,'' said D'Talle's band leader Ivette Porras Thorp. "We want everyone to hear our music and the music of Cuba.'' The ten-strong Cuban all-woman band flew in last week to entertain club-goers at New Year, and have decided to stay until Monday.

They will be playing on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night at the club, which is above the old McDonald's restaurant in the old officer's club on the former base.

The fundraiser will begin at 7 p.m. on Sunday with tickets costing $50 for general entry and $75 for patrons. Three quarter of the patrons ticket will go to the PLP and half of the cash from the general tickets will also go to the funds.

Mr. Blakeney said: "We are still not sure if the Premier's busy schedule will incorporate the evening, but we hope so. We have invited all the Government members, including the Opposition and we are looking forward to the evening.''
