Cheque books, prescription glasses and other personal items were taken from a residence on West Avenue sometime during the morning.

An insecure door at a home on Idle Acres Road in Smith's Parish allowed an intruder access to $730 in cash.

Also in Southampton, a residence on Peppercorn Lane was entered through an insecure door while the occupants were at church. Nothing is believed to have been stolen.

Thieves who broke four panes of glass to gain entry to a home on Middle Road near Heron Bay School, also left empty-handed.

Police spokesman P.c. Gary Venning said as warmer weather approaches home owners should make sure they install proper security locks on all windows -- especially those left open for ventilation.

He also said it is important to lock doors to the residence whenever the property is left unoccupied -- even for short periods.
