Armed robber targets St George’s storeA firearm was apparently used and cash taken, in an armed robbery at Cousins Variety store on Wellington Road in St. George’s.Police said the incident was reported around 11pm on Thursday.A store manager said: “A man came onto the premises brandishing what appeared to be a gun. We’re not sure if it was real. It happened very quickly and nobody was hurt. He took some cash and made good his escape.”The intruder demanded cash from a person at the register, he said. Police described the suspect as a light skinned man approximately six ft tall. He was said to be wearing dark coloured jeans, a dark coloured long-sleeved hooded top, dark coloured sneakers and dark coloured sunglasses.Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to call St. George’s Criminal Investigation Unit at 293 2222, or use the confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline, 800 8477.Police issue warning about electronic goodsElectronic items are being targeted by burglars, with police citing recent cases in which flat screen TVs and video game systems were taken.Residents are reminded to record the serial numbers of valuable possessions, as well as to U-Mark and photograph them to assist in their recovery. Suspicious individuals, vehicles or activities can be reported to police on 295-0011.Watch out for phony survey callers, police warnResidents have been advised to be careful about allowing persons into their homes for unsolicited work.Police yesterday reported a number of complaints from residents who have recently been approached about an alleged sustainable energy survey. The caller claims to need to visit the property for an inspection.Said a Police spokesman: “We continue to recommend that members of the public receiving these phone calls or similar phone calls ask for the caller’s name, phone number and credentials to verify if the call is genuine.“If an unsolicited individual does attend your property, ask for official identification and verify with the appropriate company. If at any time you are unsure about the person’s intentions, do not let them in your home.”
