Promotion looms after Hotels win
Second Division leaders Hotels moved closer to First Division football next season with their ninth win in 11 league matches on Saturday at PHC Stadium.
Chris Sabir broke the deadlock with the first of his two goals in the 17th minute before Kenwick Butterfield replied for Social Club in the 21st minute.
Sabir restored the Hotels lead in the 32nd minute and mid-table Social Club never got close after that as Joey Weeks scored in the 48th and 56th minutes to put three more points in the bag.
Unbeaten Hotels, with a game in hand over other promotion contenders Somerset Trojans, Wolves and Somerset Eagles, can make certain of promotion with two wins in their five remaining games.
Ham.Parish 1 Som.Eagles 1 Hamilton Parish, having recently shocked Somerset Trojans at home, upset the promotion aspirations of another west end team, Somerset Eagles, yesterday at Wellington Oval when Dalton Burgess' late goal earned a draw.
Eagles took the lead in the 54th minute through Rodre Wilson and looked headed for the win that would keep them in the hunt for the second promotion spot.
Both teams had a player sent off in the 70th minute when Stephen Burrows of Eagles and Parish's Chris Caisey were ejected for a scuffle in an off-the-ball incident. Both had earlier been booked, Caisey just minutes earlier for kicking the ball away after Eagles were awarded a corner.
Eagles received another jolt in the 78th minute when Burgess produced an equaliser for Parish. The draw leaves Eagles trailing second-placed Somerset Trojans by four points, both with four matches remaining.
Somerset 8 Prospect 0 Just as the rains burst from the heavens, so did Somerset explode upon visiting Prospect, blasting the men in blue 8-0 at Somerset Cricket Club.
However, it was a delayed reaction, as the visitors, despite playing a man short, were able to hold the young Trojans to just a single score until halftime.
Afterwards they were not so fortunate, their wall of defence battered to oblivion as Michael Brangman ripped a hat-trick, scoring the first, fourth and sixth goals.
Helping Brangman in the scoring department were Everett Wellman, back after suffering a neck injury, with two strikes, while Lamaul Crofton, Marco Butterfield and substitute Jelani Butterfield added single tallies.
The west enders, who moved onto 24 points, boosted their chances of a quick return to the First Division, maintaining a two-point edge for second place over Wolves while greatly enhancing their goal difference. Trojans still trail leaders Hotels by five points, the later also having a game in hand.
