Cruise ship returns to Island to avoid Ernesto
Cruisers enjoyed extra time in Bermuda ? thanks to Tropical Storm Ernesto.
The decision to bring back to the Island was made amid fears that it could run into trouble on the way to the Bahamas and hit Ernesto?s path.
The cruise liner, carrying 2,785 passengers, left the Island early on Monday evening.
But the gloomy weather forecast forced a quick change to the itinerary. The cruiser did a U-turn, arriving back in Bermuda early yesterday morning. She then spent the day anchored in the Great Sound, off Sandys, before heading a short distance out to sea last night.
was due back in the Great Sound today at 7 a.m. and is set to sail into Dockyard when departs tonight and space becomes available at a cruise ship terminal.
Weather permitting, she is now due to leave for New York at 9 a.m. tomorrow.
Cruiseship tenders have been used to ferry passengers between and Albuoy?s Point.
Ernesto became the Atlantic season?s first hurricane on Sunday morning, then weakened to a storm after passing Haiti.
Last night the storm was dissipating off the coast of Florida but still producing 45 mph winds as of 8 p.m.
However, forecasters warned it could strengthen again as it moves over the Gulf of Mexico.
