Police issue strong warning about keeping valuables safe

Police are urging Islanders to lock their homes securely and keep valuables in a safe place after a spate of burglaries.

Officers are investigating two break-ins which occurred on Gibbs Hill Road, Southampton, on Monday.

One of the burglaries took place between 9.30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The householder reported that $120, jewellery, a Dell laptop computer, an X-Box 360 video game system, three men's ties and two men's shirts, a Compaq laptop computer, a black Samsonite suitcase and a wireless router device were stolen.

The other break-in happened between 8.30 a.m. and 7.35 p.m. The culprit stole an Acer laptop computer, several items of gold jewellery, three pairs of white Reebok sneakers, one pair of black Nike sneakers and several items of men's clothing.

A Police spokesman said the burglaries and other recent break-ins meant residents should take extra security precautions.

"The Bermuda Police Service would like to remind all residents to lock their homes securely before leaving them unattended for any length of time," he said.

"Also, valuables and money should be kept in a safe or a safety deposit box if at all possible. We are encouraging residents to call the main Police number 295-0011 to report any suspicious individuals or activity in their neighbourhood."
