Smith strikes silver
the CAC Championships in Barbados.
And now he could be on his way to next month's Pan-Am Games in Winnipeg, Canada.
Smith, who has enjoyed an all-conquering domestic season on the road running circuit capped by his victory in the Marathon Derby last month, earned second place with a time under the one hour, 10 minute mark -- his exact time wasn't available last night.
Smith also made his mark at regional level earlier in the season with an impressive seventh place finish in the CAC Cross Country Championships.
Later last night, two other Bermuda medal hopes were due to compete -- Terrance Armstrong in the 1500 metres and Brian Wellman in the triple jump. On Friday, the meet's opening day, Devon Bean narrowly missed out on a medal in the long jump when he produced a leap of 7.52 metres, his second best jump of the year and just three centimetres short of the bronze medal jump.
Bean also made the semi-finals of the 100 metres, after finishing second in his heat with a time of 10.78 seconds.
His fourth place finish in the semi-finals meant he missed out on a place in the final by just one place.
Ashley Couper finished fifth in her 800 metres semi-final and Damian Simmons was also eliminated from the mens' 800 metres in the semi-finals.
Kavin Smith: silver medal at the CAC Championships in Barbados.
