Houston is Island's sprint king
Tre Houston reaffirmed his status as Bermuda's number one sprinter with a double win in the 100 and 200 metres at the National Track and Field Championships at the weekend.
The 20-year-old UK-based runner beat off his main challenger Jeneko Place to claim his twin victories at the National Sports Centre (NSC).
Houston posted a time of 10.96 seconds in the 100 metres and 21.24 in the 200 metres. Place finished in 11.10 (100m) and 21.75 (200m).
In the 800 metres, Henry Stevens-Carty came out on top in his two-way battle with Shaquille Dill, Shianne Smith cleaned up in the heptathlon while Jasmine Brunson won the girls' long jump (6.20 metres).
In the boys' long jump, winner Christian Wright leaped to a personal best of 6.99 metres and 13-year-old Kyrah Scraders (4:56.21) beat both Ashley Berry, 18, and Taylor Ashley-Bean, 17, to finish second behind overseas runner Maddy Cline in the 1500 metres.
Shuntae Hendrickson booked herself a ticket to the CAC Junior Championship by winning the 800 metres in 2:23.11.
Donna Watson, Bermuda Track and Field Association president, described this year's National Championship's "as a great event with great performances."
