Former Corporation of Hamilton councillor Graeme Outerbridge has announced his intention to fight to keep the Municipality alive as an elected body.
While he is against the removal of the corporations of Hamilton and St. Georges, he does believe in reform, as was suggested by the Legislative committee on which he served for the Corporation of Hamilton.
"I believe that the changes that the Corporation of Hamilton were suggesting were a first step in a wide discussion of positive change," said Mr. Outerbridge. "I strongly believe that both Corporations should continue as elected bodies, and that it is wrong to destroy them."
Mr. Outerbridge resigned as councillor in last June after an investigation as to whether he qualified as a tenant of the city. He has since become an outspoken critic of the current administration, whistle-blowing about behind the scenes feuding.
Among his suggested reforms are a greater push towards voter registration, open meetings, equal treatment for all parts of the town, and improving access for the physically disabled.
"We must improve basic access throughout the city so that no matter what a person's health and physical condition that they can make their way through the city and its buildings."
