Anni Clark promises a `blast' at Bermuda Folk Club show

American folk singer Anni Clark is back in Bermuda to perform at the Bermuda Folk Club, and she promises tomorrow night's performance will be a blast.

Ms Clark, who hails from Portland, Maine was asked to return to the Island after performing at the club two years ago.

The singer and songwriter brings with her a talent that embraces folk, pop, and the blues. She has also recorded three albums and has recently released a CD.

When asked to describe her type of music Ms Clarke said: "The best way to describe the kind of music that I play would be a combination of Joni Mitchell, Bonnie Raitt, and Ricki Lee Jones. If you were to throw them all into a blender and add red hair you have Anni Clark.'' She has been performing full-time since 1981 and mainly concentrated on the New England area before expanding her horizons.

"For the past four to five years I have been spreading my wings and doing a lot of touring in Atlanta and the seaboard states. I am also very involved in the music scene in Texas.

"A few times a year I play on Nantucket Island. I love the island gigs because there is a different attitude on them. I have been close to the ocean all my life but I'm really a mountain girl.'' Asked what inspires her to write most of her songs Ms Clark said: "I get a lot of my ideas for songs in my dreams and I have learned to tap into my subconscious. I also get flashes of phrases and ideas when I'm alone in my car which I then tape on my tape recorder, and I get a lot of inspiration when I'm in Nantucket.'' Ms Clark said that she has been spending her time in Bermuda rehearsing for tomorrow's show, beaching, smelling the "beautiful air'', eating great food especially her favourite Bermuda fish chowder, and socialising with friends she met here on her last visit.

She added that she had also checked out the local music scene. "I caught one performance and it was a man from Florida,'' she chuckled.

Ms Clark encourages everyone to "clear their schedules and attend Saturday night's show''.

"I will be performing two 45-minute sets and will concentrate on my own material with a few surprises,'' she said.

Does she plan on coming back to Bermuda in the future? "I definitely want to keep coming back to Bermuda to perform. People really appreciate my music here,'' she said.

Tickets for the 8 p.m. show can be purchased at the Old Colony CLub on Trott Road for $10 for Folk Club members and $15 for non-members.
