Ivers plays second fiddle to nobody
world washed briefly over Bermuda this week.
Accompanied by three members of the seven-piece band with which she regularly performs, New York-born folk rocker Eileen Ivers flew in on Monday to demonstrate her souped-up brand of traditional Irish fiddle-playing for appreciative Harbour Nights crowds in Hamilton and St. George's.
"We're having a great time,'' Ms Ivers told The Royal Gazette last night.
"It's been really fun.'' Although this trip is her first to Bermuda, Ms Ivers, 28, has played for audiences on almost every continent. Having toured with American pop duo Hall and Oates in 1992, she appeared on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno,'' survived a hurricane in Manila and had a "wild'' jam session in, of all places, the Japanese capital.
"Tokyo was wild,'' she said.
Right now, Ms Ivers is promoting her first solo recording, entitled "Eileen Ivers: Traditional Irish Music,'' and planning a trip to Ireland, which she visits almost every summer. "I've been playing there a long time,'' she said of the country that fuels her music.
