Impaired rider failed to stop

A plumber was arrested for impaired driving on his way home from a Police party, a court heard.

Rudolph Simons, 27, of Sandys was stopped by officers on North Shore Road, Hamilton, at 3.25 a.m. on December 20.

Crown Counsel Larissa Burgess said Simons was heading east near the Aquarium when officers tried to pull him over, but he continued on his way.

"The rider failed to stop at the instruction of the officers," she said.

However when Simons turned left into the Railway Trail, officers apprehended him.

"The officers noticed a strong smell of intoxicants on his breath," said Ms Burgess.

Asked if he had been drinking, Simons told Police: "No officer, I'm on my way home from the Police party.

"I'm a good person officer, I ain't causing no trouble."

Charged with impaired driving later that morning however, Simons admitted drink-driving.

He told Magistrates' Court yesterday: "I'm sorry for wasting the court's time. It could have been solved easily in that I could have called for a car to take me home."

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Simons $1,000 and banned him from driving for a year. He also gave him ten demerit points.
