Football the winner, says triumphant Mussenden
Larry Mussenden has returned for a second stint as president of the Bermuda Football Association (BFA) after winning last night's election.
The lawyer, who served as president from 2001-2008, defeated Mark Wade 13-7 at the BFA's AGM at Young Men's Social Club last night.
Mussenden will serve for the remaining two years of outgoing president Richard Calderon's four-year term. He said he was honoured the affiliates had voted him ahead of Wade.
"I can't say I was quite confident. I know BFA clubs and we have a good dialogue but on the night they make the best decision for their clubs and for football. I'm certainly honoured they have voted me in for another term."
Mussenden, the FIFA chairman of the appeals committee, said he was glad his presidential rival Wade would be serving on the executive.
"I'm pleased Mark Wade is on the executive and as I said –earlier whatever was promised to the clubs there's no reason they should not get it. I said to the congress I've known Mark for some time and he's a magnificent person, an excellent person and there's no reason why the two of us can't work together.
"Maybe football has won by having both of us."
An important two years lie ahead for Mussenden who insisted he is ready for the challenge.
"I like hard work but I think we have an excellent team on the executive council from all walks of life. We can have a very good productive few years coming up."
