Paget property aims for the top
Paget facility as one of the top small hotels on the Island.
Within a year, Mr. Frederick and his new bosses, James M. Dwyer and Dennis Curley, want to have the 80 bed hotel renovated and challenging for honours amongst the Island's elite.
A multi-million dollar revitalisation plan is already underway and by the year 2000, the hotel will see revamped rooms, new water view dining facilities and other improvements.
Mr. Dwyer, owner of a broad building, hospitality and investmemt group, has pledged the hotel, which he bought last year, will maintain a reputation as an "intimate'' place to stay.
Welcoming Mr. Frederick to the hotel, he said: "It hasn't made its full potential up to now and it has the scope to be a successful hotel.
"We have initiated an aggressive marketing campaign. We don't want to do away with its intimate nature. Alot of guests don't want any changes at all.'' And Mr. Frederick, who left the Government-run Stonington Beach earlier this week, said they wanted to set the highest standards among small properties.
"I am extremely excited to be here, we have got major plans for this place,'' he said.
The renovations are intended to be sympathetic to the existing building and will be carried out whilst the hotel is open.
The 40 staff have all been informed of the changes ahead and Mr. Frederick said the determination and drive of Mr. Dwyer and Dwyer Hospitality Group boss Dennis Curley were partly what attracted him to the post.
"I had done all I could do at Stonington, due to the support of the staff,'' he said. "This was such a great opportunity.'' And both Mr. Dwyer and Mr. Curley revealed that the successful candidate was chosen simply because his credentials and experience set him above the 50 applicants from around the world.
"When we checked his references from where he worked before, we knew we had the right man,'' said Mr. Curley.
And Mr. Dwyer added: "We are delighted he is here. He has the enthusiasm and energy.'' Dwyer also owns hotels in the US and he said White Sands would be leading their marketing effort.
