Social Club 109 PHC 110-5
when they trounced fellow league minnows Social Club by five wickets at St.
John's field.
Chief architect of the result was Cal Waldron who devastated the early order of the home team, returning figures of four wickets for 31 runs from his allotted 10 overs.
Assisting in the destruction was Charles Simons with three opposing scalps, while Lyle Millett captured one wicket, as Social Club could only muster a total of 109.
Social Club had inched their way to 12 when Millett shattered the guard of Dwayne Adams after the latter had made only two.
From this point it was Waldron stepping to the fore, accounting for opener Webster Mills (nine), Desmond Smith (one) and Cecil Tucker (nought) in succession before coming back to bowl number eight batsman Cory Berkeley (11).
Thomas Brangman was high man for Social Club, supplying 22 before he was run out. Other major contributors were Earlston Wolffe (20) and Elvis Richardson (19).
Turning around to bat PHC got off to a less than stellar start, losing Sheridan Ming (two) with the scoreboard reading six.
His departure brought Kevin Dill to the crease to partner Mark Smith and the pair put on 22 for the second wicket.
Smith then became the second of four dismissals by wicket-keeper Adams -- three catches and one stumping -- as he was caught behind for 14 off the bowling of Cecil Tucker.
Dill, who eventually was out for 27, then hooked up with Antoine Greene (15), moving the total to 69 before the latter danced down the wicket and was beaten by a Desmond Smith delivery, turning around only to witness Adams whipping off the bails and sending him back to the pavilion.
In came Ty Williams who spiced the action with a few swipes that brought 19 runs, including 16 from Roddy Thompson's 10th over, a result of two fours, a six and one double.
Tension in the PHC camp was obvious as they neared their target and shouts rang out from the small but enthusiatic crowd gathered as Waldron (two) and William Fray (12) knocked off the winning runs.
Hamilton Parish 74 Devonshire Rec. 75-2 Devonshire Rec. needed just 12 overs in 48 minutes to score the required 75 runs for victory after Anthony (Pacer) Edwards, Winston Trott, Jr. and Mark Trott did the bowling damage for the home team.
Parish never recovered from a first-ball setback when Edwards had Millard Bean caught by Albert Steede. And though Brian Morris and captain Dennis Trott moved the score along to 28 before the next wicket fell, Parish offered little in the way of resistance as the last eight wickets fell for 46 runs. Trott scored almost half his team's runs, hitting three fours and two sixes in a 55-minute knock of 31 before he was fifth out when the score was 48. The visitors recovered slightly with player/coach Lee Raynor and Michael Burgess putting on 24 for the sixth wicket in 35 minutes of which Burgess hit 17 from three fours.
Mark Trott's lbw dismissal of Burgess ended Parish's last hopes of reaching 100 as the last five wickets fell for just two runs with Mark Trott claiming three and Trott two.
Edwards finished with four for 22 from 10 overs with Winston Trott taking three for 17 and Mark Trott three for 15.
After winning the toss, Parish stayed at the crease from 12.25 to 2.10 and scored their first 50 in 62 minutes from 13 overs.
Devonshire, too, had a bad start when they lost openers Roger Trott and Terry Fray in the first and second overs with just five runs on the board. But an unbeaten third-wicket stand of 70, which was dominated by Mark Ray's 52 quickly put things right as Parish went through six bowlers trying to prolong the inevitable.
Ray hit four fours and four sixes in his 33-ball knock while Steede was not out on 16, content to play second fiddle. Chris Caisey, the only Parish bowler to bowl more than two overs, claimed one for 14 from four overs with Curtis Lee getting the other wicket at a cost of 19 runs from two overs.
