In-form Steede fires Stars to easy win
Devonshire Rec. 138-9 Once again it took a sparkling batting performance from Albert Steede to spearhead Western Stars to this Premier League victory.
Having struck a superb century the previous week against Police, the opener this time stroked 76 to lead Stars to a 116-run victory over his former team, Devonshire Rec., in a game reduced to 38 overs because of a delay at the start due to the wet pitch.
Steede quickly set about the Rec. bowlers as he carried on from his 79 the day before in the Central Counties final (see story this page).
Also among the runs for Stars were veteran Ricky Brangman with 61, skipper Arnold Manders (28), Cleon Scotland (20 not out), Jermaine Postlethwaite (16), Gary Brangman (12) and Hasan Durham (11).
Lyle Millett led the Devonshire bowlers with two for 29 off seven overs and three maidens while Wendell Swan grabbed two for 69 off eight overs.
Devonshire batted their allotted overs but never had any hope of reaching the target.
Ricky Brangman Jr. was top bat with 36 before being run out, Audley Campbell followed with 25, Don Vickers (20) and Dennis Williams (13).
Gary Brangman had four for 24 off eight overs with two maidens while Jason Robinson had two for 46 off eight overs.
Social Club 91 Willow Cuts 94-1 In a game reduced to 40 overs because of the wet pitch at St. John's Field, Willow Cuts skipper Dexter Basden and his brother Richard led their side to an expected victory over struggling Social Club.
Richard's medium pace bowling tore the batting apart as he claimed four for four off six overs, including three maidens. Young Linje Woods had three for 22 off nine overs with two maidens while Ozzie Hinds took two for 18 off four overs, including a maiden.
Veteran Cecil Tucker led Social Club in batting with 27 while K.Richardson scored 14.
Opener Dexter Basden struck 57 not out and Richard chipped in with 18 not out as Willow Cuts reached victory off 20.2 overs. Shannon Warner scored 11.
Warwick 147 Somerset Bridge 150-3 David (Hixbie) Jones cracked 82 not out and Brian Gibbons scored 15 to lead Somerset Bridge to this seven-wicket victory over Warwick at White Hill Field.
Gibbons also contributed with the ball, finishing with four for 44 off six overs.
