The third partyAugust 10, 2009Dear Sir,

The third party

August 10, 2009

Dear Sir,

Dr. Brown got my dandruff up. I was hoping not to write you for a while. I found that Bermuda does have three political parties. UBP the opposition, PLP the governing party and Dr. Brown the dictator party. Why I say Dr. Brown is the third party is because I am sick and tired of foreigners coming down here thanking the Bermuda Government for taking in four prisoners of war, they are not refugees quoted by the Americans as far as I am concerned they should be thanking the Dr. Brown party not the PLP government. I am not convinced that the American Consul, Mr. Slayton had nothing to do with it. I believe he is the one who suggested it to Dr. Brown to take these four men. He has a cobra snake for a tongue.

I believe that Dr. Brown was contacted by the CIA the last time he went away with Mr. Slayton and Paula Cox. That is when he made the decision by himself and he knew what he was doing and decided to let the ball fall where ever when he got back home because he has strong shoulders and was willing to suffer the consequences. I would like to notify the Bermuda public that the CIA of America do not have respect for any international laws. The department is controlled by certain people. I remember right after 911 the CIA went into action kidnapping American citizens around the world and taking them to countries that specialise in interrogating so called prisoners. They have a special unit inside the CIA that fly unmarked planes picking up people around the world whom they suspect are terrorist and some even disappear.

I wonder whether Dr. Brown is borderline of committing treason by not notifying the British Government, the Bermuda governor and its Cabinet. He knew they would say no. In fact the Governor of Bermuda had told the people what Dr. Brown was doing was not legal. I assume that the Governor means that Dr. Brown has broken the constitution of Bermuda that is why I say Dr. Brown could be borderline for treason. Dr. Brown reminds me of Jim Jones. They both started out very humble, but because they became so powerful they feel untouchable.

The British Government is scared of him, the opposition is definitely scared of him, the PLP is scared of him. Dr. Brown's philosophy is I do what I want and I want what I do. I am also under the belief that he believes he has the only political brains in the party that can lead them. I have no doubt that he is convinced of that. When ever he goes to a political meeting he comes away smiling saying, I have them where I want them. (I really got them brainwashed and you know who you are) so far he has made two political blunders.

1. Bringing the four prisoners to Bermuda without public permission.

2. Lied to the House and his colleagues about the gambling bill.

I am also convinced that Dr. Brown uses backbenchers as useless politicians. They are just used to vote and they must vote "yes". When you vote "no" you have to go. Mr. Roban I know you were told by Dr. Brown that if you hang in there with him you will get a portfolio. In my opinion you have not been in the political arena long enough to have such an important position as the whip of the Party. If you kiss up long enough you will advance, so pay attention back benchers if you want to get ahead. Kiss up.

Paula Cox, it is time to step forward and stop waiting for the perfect t time. Hon. Dale Butler you will always be honourable in my eyes for the stand you took in resigning from your ministry because of your Christian beliefs and your morals. Your mother trained you well. The rest of you need to go back and reflect on the training your parents gave you on morals.

Mr. Editor I was pleased with the two public demonstrations in the House of Assembly asking for Dr. Brown to resign. It reminds me of when I was overseas in school. I got arrested and imprisoned in 1965 for protesting at a restaurant that refused to serve "Down syndrome" persons, that happened in New York City. We closed the restaurant down forever that was my for protest and I would do it again. Bermuda public needs to march on Parliament more often, not just gather there. The march has a thunder effect, plus it picks up people when you march and it interrupts the people. I stoped listening to the House in Assembly on a regular basis because of the garbage that is being discussed and the rude behaviour toward each other. The Speaker is biased because I do not hear him giving constructive discipline in the House when it is needed.

I would like to take this opportunity to send my sympathy to the family of the late Nelson Bascome, the Health Minister. He was my football companion I supported North Village the winning team and he supported Devonshire Colts the losing team, but we remained friends after the games. He will be a miss. He was a good citizen of this island and a good sportsman.

Slayton was no diplomat

August 27, 2009

Dear Sir,

The Circus has left town and I am glad. The image of Gregory Slayton in front of the Bermuda media, with a blue baseball cap pulled down above his eyes, preaching on how Bermuda should conduct its affairs is over. He had a lot of energy in promoting himself and injecting his opinions where they were neither asked for nor required.

This American Consul was no diplomat and while a new breed of Bermudian politicians seemed comfortable with Mr. Slayton holding their hands around Washington like a high school class on an educational outing, I found it childish. Bermuda has always had good contacts in Washington and it was always done without being under such a direct American agenda.

I hope the new American Consul establishes a more diplomatic style and reverts to diplomacy instead of domestic Bermudian interference. Mr. Slayton liked attention and it was more about his opinions on Bermudian education and immigration than American policy. He made much about the Obama Administration keeping him on in Bermuda but I believe he asked for the extension.

You would have thought we had an American President living in Bermuda by the end of his tenure such was the dimension of the man's sense of self importance. I am glad he is gone. Maybe Bermuda can get back to working out its own relationship with America without an American Consul schooling us with what every Bermudian already knows. Bermuda has a special relationship with the USA and we don't need his wife to write a book to be aware of this fact.

Do not wait for it to happen

August 21, 2009

Dear Sir,

I am deeply saddened by what happened to Rhiana. I didn't know her but I have a three- year-old daughter and it brings tears to my eyes because as a mother I know what it's like to have your heart outside of your chest (your child) and for someone to viciously take that away from you would leave me an empty shell.

I agree 110 percent that we need to have a sex offenders register. Bermuda needs to get away from protecting the identity of the offenders and focus on bringing justice for the victims and preventing it from happening to other innocent children. We should look to the US as an example and have a website that allows one to see pictures of the offenders, what parish they live in, and why they are labelled as such. No, the offenders' name should not be taken off the list. It is a sickness and even though an offender might be "clean" from offending for a certain time frame that is not enough to say they won't ever again. And if their name/picture is taken off the list and they abuse someone else? What's going to be done? Oh, sorry we should have kept the individual on the list? It's too late!

Ze Selassie is sentenced for life ... but will he serve his full sentence? Probably not. Look at his previous record and how he was released early ... no justice. What's going to happen is that people are going to get fed up and street justice will step in to finish what our justice system could not.

The Kellon Hill murder. A perfect example of our justice system failing not only the Hill family but Bermuda as an island. I'm sure many know the "joke" ... Don't get caught with a joint or a quarter, you'll get locked up but if you want to kill someone and get away with it, do it in Bermuda. That is so sad but true! Kellon Hill, Rebecca Middleton, Shaundae Jones and that's only three – what about all the others? C'mon Bermuda don't wait for it to be your child to step in and demand that justice be served! I am a Bermudian born and raised and Bermuda, my plea to you is that we band together and protect our children!
