Gymnasts shine in US
southeastern seaboard with a solid performance at a regional meet hosted by Raleigh School of Gymnastics in North Carolina.
Competing alongside seven other squads with a view towards qualifying for spots at the upcoming USAIGC Nationals, slated for Haines City in Florida next month, the 13-member Bermuda Gymnastics Association team emerged with six medals and several other top placings.
Brittany Repose was the Island's leading light, seizing gold in the floor exercise with a 9.45 score, which spurred her to second overall in the combined (37.25) for level seven. She was also ninth in both the vault and beam. Also doing well in the same category was Kelena Astwood, likewise attaining gold standard in the vault (9.40), while achieving a personal best overall showing of 36.85, good for fourth. Casey Lopes notched fifth (36.650) and Jasmine Brunson ended ninth (36.200), with the latter grabbing a floor exercise (9.425) silver medal along the way.
In level nine, Maria Darby took third in the all-around with a 35.425 score while placing fourth on the bars (8.825), third on beam (9.025) and fifth on floor (9.00). Shauntiah Rawlins finished 11th overall (33.825), while Sasha Christensen was 15th (32.80).
Meanwhile, the newer members of the team competed in the Novice State competition in Fayetteville, and had Kaisey Griffith notch leading honours with a fourth in the all-around (34.10).
Ryanne Bardgett also turned in a fine showing, ending sixth (33.45) while Anna Clifford and Leticia McKoy performed admirably in the bars (8.7) and vault (8.35) respectively.
