A Paget man admitted stealing around $19 worth of goods from his employer out of anger.

Walter Bean, 50, of South Road, pleaded guilty to stealing a pack of cigarettes, a strawberry air freshener, a five pack of razors and two chocolate bars from the Esso City Tigermarket in Pembroke, where he was employed at the time.

According to Crown counsel Larissa Burgess, a manager saw Bean place the items into a plastic bag and walk out of the store without paying for them.

The manager called Bean into his office and questioned him, but Bean said he had paid for the items.

Days later, when interviewed by Police, he admitted the theft, saying that he was sorry and he had the money.

In court, Bean said that he stole the items believing that money taken out of his pay cheque for social insurance by his employer was not being put in his social insurance.

"I was angry," he said. "I did something stupid."

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo agreed, saying: "Particularly stupid in light of your reasoning. You don't need to be engaging in this type of behaviour."

Mr. Tokunbo gave Bean a six-month conditional discharge.
