Premier Brown praises golf championVallis
Premier Ewart Brown has congratulated Bermuda golfer Robert Vallis on his superb victory in the British Seniors Amateur Tournament.
Veteran Vallis clinched the biggest victory of his career - and perhaps the biggest ever by any local player - when he won the 41st Senior British Amateur Championships at the historic Prestwick Golf Club in Scotland last week.
The 56-year-old Mid Ocean Club member and former Bermuda Amateur Strokeplay Champion, won by two shots over Canada's Graham Cooke and defending champion, American Paul Simson.
One of the Island's leading amateurs over the past three decades, Vallis carded a one-over-par 73 in his final round for a 54-hole total of 224
Premier Ewart Brown and Sports Minister Glenn Blakeney wrote to congratulate Vallis on his victory.
"You have captured the imagination of many golfers back home in Bermuda," said Premier Brown in his letter. To see a countryman accomplish a feat as tall as this is something to make Bermudians truly proud.
"I hope you are enjoying the glow of victory with your friends and family and I hope I get the chance to offer my congratulations in person the next time you are at home.
Vallis is due to play at the US Seniors Amateur next month.
