Brown is spot-kick hero as Wolves aim for more glory

Wolves are thinking about another FA Cup run after victory over Hamilton Parish in a classic all-Second Division tie at Wellington Oval took them into the quarter-finals yesterday.

After a one minute silence was observed in respect for the late mother of Wolves trainer Alvin Lee, the teams settled down to deliver a thrilling match despite the heavy rain which virtually washed out the first round of the competition.

At the end of it there was plenty to digest...six goals, six yellow cards and one red and two penalty saves by Wolves goalkeeper Hewvonnie Brown which proved decisive.

The first two goals were delivered by Wolves in the space of just 30 seconds midway through the first half. Winger Nirobi Smith opened the scoring in the 19th minute when he slipped through on the right side of the penalty box.

Khari Sharrieff, whose goals helped Wolves reach the final last year, added the second moments later when his shot from the left edge of the area got past goalkeeper Kevin Bean after skidding on the wet surface.

Parish should have cut the lead minutes later when they were awarded a penalty after a foul on Ricky Hill. However, Sean Dill's spotkick was saved by Brown to his left.

Dill made amends in the 39th minute when he pulled one back to leave Parish confident of turning things around in the second half.

They were preparing to bring on Corey Hill in the 51st minute when Wolves restored their two-goal lead through Dane Simmons, who converted a cross from Nirobi Smith.

Hill's presence did inject new life into the Parish front line and after 66 minutes Julian Francis of Wolves paid the penalty for swearing at referee Anthony Mouchette as emotions ran high.

Hill made it 3-2 six minutes later with the best goal of the game. He passed to brother Ricky in the box and then sprinted forward to receive the return pass before blasting into the roof of the net off Brown's fingertips.

Parish were now back in the game but poor defending again cost them three minutes from the end when Khari Sharrieff exchanged passes with substitute Ricky Nesbitt before calmly placing the ball past Bean.

A minute after that Parish were awarded a second penalty and this time Brown went to his right to save Corey Hill's low shot.

Mouchette booked Zane Stowe, Chris Caisey and Leroy Robinson of Parish and Wolves'Dean Pitt, Brown and Nesbitt.
