some of the United Bermuda Party's biggest names in Warwick in the next general election.

Mr. Calvin Smith, the manager of the Bermuda Industrial Union Member's Credit Union, and Sen. Alex Scott, the Opposition Senate Leader, will take on Home Affairs Minister the Hon. Irving Pearman and Education Minister the Hon.

Gerald Simons in Warwick East.

And Dr. Ewart Brown and trade unionist Mr. George Scott will tackle long-time MPs the Hon. Sir John Sharpe, the Delegated Affairs Minister, and Health Minister the Hon. Quinton Edness in Warwick West.

The constituencies, particularly Warwick East, are expected to be decisive battlegrounds in shaping the outcome of the next election.

PLP leader Mr. Frederick Wade yesterday introduced the four candidates at Alaska Hall saying they possessed skills, talent and excitement.

Mr. Scott is the only team member who has run in the same constituency before.

He lost in Warwick West in 1989.

Mr. Wade said Dr. Brown brought to the team "international flavour as an international person''. He said the doctor had "made a name for himself in the early civil rights movement in the US''.

Dr. Brown, who maintains a medical practice in Los Angeles, was asked how many months of the year he was off the Island.

"I haven't counted, but I'm here every month,'' he said, adding that the people of Warwick had never raised the question with him.

"I'm a Bermudian, born and raised here,'' he said. "I have been involved in the life of Bermuda since my younger years... I've decided to return home to contribute to the development of my Country.'' Mr. Wade described the question as a non-issue given that many MPs are never questioned about their off-Island business travel. He also noted the issue was never raised with PLP MP Mr. David Allen, whose work as a travel writer takes him off the Island frequently.

Mr. Allen, he said, was one of the best MPs in the House of Assembly.

Sen. Scott said Warwick differed little from other areas across the Island.

Big issues among its voters were immigration and employment, under-employment and drug abuse and its consequences.

"Warwick screams out for representation,'' he said.

Mr. Wade said Mr. Scott's value in Parliament would be his experience and understanding as a single parent and a trade unionist.

"He has experience with Bermuda's problems, particularly as they relate to ordinary workers,'' Mr. Wade said.

Mr. Smith, a former PLP MP in Hamilton West, said he was re-entering politics to break the growing frustration among Bermudians who feel they are not being heard by Government.

He said he would work for greater participation in decision-making.
