Ten years on and this trail keeps on growing
The sixth African Diaspora Heritage Trail Conference will take place next month in Bermuda.
The conference, titled Evolution of the Trail, starts on October 14.
Conference chairperson Dame Jennifer Smith said: "This year's event is historically significant as it marks the celebration of Bermuda's tenth anniversary since the inception of the African Diaspora Heritage Trail by the late Minister of Tourism David Allen. How proud he would be to know that our commitment to his vision was kept alive, thanks significantly to Premier Brown."
In addition to local politicians the Bahamian Minister of Tourism Vanderpool Wallace, Tanzanian Minster of Tourism Shamsa Mwangunga and Canadian Minister of Tourism Michael Chan will also be attending.
International academics will also be on hand including the director of Cultural Studies for the Smithsonian Institute, James Early, University of Missouri professor Desmond Endowed and UNESCO programme specialist of the slave route project Edmond Moukala.
Bermudian experts attending include Clarence Maxwell, Muriel Wade-Smith, Quito Swan, Janet Ferguson, Radell Tankard, Edward Harris, Senator Walton Brown, Michelle St. Jane and Cordell Riley.
