A 60-year-old pedestrian was allegedly run over by a woman driver yesterday afternoon and ended up in hospital with head and back injuries.

The accident happened about 3.20 p.m. at the junction of Court and Dundonald Street.

According to a Police report, a car was travelling north along Court Street when the driver, a 52-year-old St. George's woman, turned on to Dundonald Street and hit the man who was trying to cross Dundonald Street.

The victim sustained head and back injuries but left the scene conscious. He was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and at press time, he was still in the emergency room but stable.

The driver of the car was not injured and the car received front end damage. Police are investigating the matter.

Hamilton Parish woman fights burglar

A would-be burglar broke into a Hamilton Parish woman's home but left empty-handed when she fought him off.

The woman was awaken at 1.20 a.m. yesterday and found a burglar in her Commonland Point Road, Hamilton Parish home. She told Police she confronted him after he ran out of the house and a struggle began but the would-be burglar ran off.

The woman sustained an abrasion to her right elbow and cuts to her toes as well as bruising to her body.

She described the suspect as a black male, approximately 5'9" tall wearing a blue hooded sweat top and black pants.

He left the home on a white or silver step through type motorcycle.

Anyone with any information or if anyone saw a man riding a white or silver coloured motorcycle in the area of Shelly Bay around the time of this incident should contact the St. George's Criminal Investigation Unit on 293-2222.

Service held to honour seamen

The annual seaman's service was held at Chapel of Ease in St. David's where boatmen came together to pay tribute to those who have died.

On Sunday, Marine & Port staff, fishermen, boatmen, union officials, friends and family and the Chapel of Ease congregation joined for the tribute led by Reverend. WD Wraths.

Following the service, a wreath-laying ceremony took place at Five Fathom Hole off St. David's Head. The Spirit of Bermuda provided the back drop and fired the cannon to pay tribute to all who have worked and served on the seas.

Burglar steals flatscreen TV

A burglar struck a Paget home yesterday afternoon and left with a flatscreen television.

Police received the report at 2.50 p.m. where the complainant at a Lover's Lane home said sometime between January 14 and yesterday, a burglar entered the home through a pool house on the property and stole the TV.

Police are investigating the matter.
