As of yesterday, nine people had been nominated for election to the National Trust council. That includes the five nominees put forward by the council that is completing its term, and four challengers.

"I think it's probably going to be a very lively meeting,'' said Mrs. Patsy Phillips, the outgoing Trust president.

But it could be a long night at the Pembroke Sunday School beside St. John's Church, as Trust members can each mark up to five names on ballots that will carry the names of at least nine candidates, and likely more. The vote count will be a complex one.

The meeting gets underway at 8 p.m., which is the deadline for nominations.

The National Trust slate for the five elected spots on the 13-member council is: Mr. David L. White, Mr. Paul Hubbard, Mr. Tim Marshall, Mr. James Gibbons, and Mr. Wayne Jackson.

Yesterday, Mr. Sanders Frith-Brown added his name to the list of outside nominations, which also includes Mr. Maurice Terceira, Mr. Peter Sayers, and Mrs. Angela Hayward.

In addition to the council election, a planned restructuring that would double the number of elected members on the council to 10 is up for discussion.

The Trust has a membership of about 3,000, and there has been "a small increase'' this week in the lead-up to tonight's meeting, said Mrs. Phillips.

Also, some members have sent in payments owing.

The hall where the meeting is to be held holds 400, a far larger number than the annual meeting normally attracts, she said. "We cannot take any more than that, because it would be breaking the fire regulations.''
