Burch sets his sights on Beijing as he clocks a meet record
Over the past weekend Roy Allan Burch continued Bermuda's impressive results in the pool and set a meet record at the NEWMAC Championships.
Burch is continuing to build on his record performances at the Pan-Am Games this past summer with a very successful senior year at Springfield College, Massachusetts .
The NEWMAC Championships is the regional meet before the NCAA championships.
Burch was impressive throughout the meet, winning the 50- and 100-metre freestyle and the 100m backstroke with times that qualify him for the NCAA's.
In capturing gold in the 50m freestyle, Burch also set a meet record in that event and again as the anchor swimmer of the 4 x 100-yard freestyle relay.
Additionally he competed as part of three other relay teams that made the qualifying times for NCAAs.
Throughout the college season, Burch has maintained his focus on qualifying for Beijing this summer. His performances are excellent indicators that he is on track to perform well in Long Course Metres and is moving ever closer to fulfilling his dream of qualifying for the Olympics.
Burch's final competition will be the college season-ending NCAAs at the end of March. Following that, he will turn his full attention to making the qualifying time for Beijing.
This will mean an intensification of his current training and competition programme, increased travel and finding suitable Long Course Metre competitions to make the qualifying time.
