Borden and Robinson honoured by the BCB
Top all-rounders Delyone Borden and Jacobi Robinson each had man-of-the-match honors bestowed upon them by Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) yesterday as a reward for helping their respective clubs reach the Board's inaugural Twenty20 final, scheduled for tomorrow at the National Sports Centre (NSC).
Both players have already represented their country of birth at the highest level and, if current form is anything to go by, will be pressing for places in Bermuda's senior national team ahead of what is shaping up to be another busy summer schedule on the international stage.
Off-break spinner Borden took two for six and then cracked an unbeaten 49 to anchor St.David's to a comfortable –seven ¿wicket victory over Police and see the Islanders safely through to the final.
Likewise, Robinson had a major say in Somerset Cricket Club's four-wicket win over Leg Trappers as he took one for 24 before belting an unbeaten 65 to set up a final showdown with a powerful St.David's line-up.
On hand to present commemorative trophies to last week's two semi-final heroes was BCB president Reggie Pearman who believes Twenty20 cricket is here to stay.
"We plan to make it a regular fixture to kick off the season," he said.
"The BCB is pleased to see how popular the T20 (Twenty20) Tournament has become in only a few short weeks.
"It is a great way to start the season."
Pearman urged the public to come out and witness what promises to be an "exciting" final at the NSC tomorrow evening where last weekend's beaten semi-finalists Leg Trappers and Police will also battle it out for third place honors prior to the main event.
"We would like to encourage all of Bermuda to come out and watch what I know will be some exciting cricket," he said.
