Fans out in record numbers

Harness racing fans turned out in record numbers to brave Saturday's chilly conditions at Vesey Street.

The meeting followed the cancellation of last Tuesday's Bermuda Bred Stakes and Powder Puff Championships.

Saturday's crowd were entertained by debutant Shamrock Marla, driven by Enio Viera, who trotted away with two wins.

Viera, drove into the winner's circle from the outside position in a winning time of 1:18.2 in the first race and for an encore, repeated the feat in the second, in a time of 1:18.4.

Scott Benevides, driving Motown, placed second in both heats.

Killer's Legacy, driven by Joseph Viera, won the third race in 1:12, closely followed by Nateway, Little Bear and Showtime driven by rookie Andrea Westerfield.

Luminair, driven by Dal Vasconcelos, captured both heats in the 1:09 to 1:11.2 A Division time bar.

In the Junior Free for All, Shady's Liberty won both heats in the B Division, while Shamrock Formal Attire posted two wins in the C Division.

Eddie Roque's, Tuxedo's Bowtie, turned in the fastest time en route to winning the Free for All in 1:07.2. GV Colonel Spence captured the second heat.

The Bermuda Bred Stakes were not well represented this year. Bowtie's Pocket watch was the three year-old stakes winner and Ponder Dawn won the the four-year-old division.

Racing continues this Saturday at 6.30 p.m. at the Vesey Street track.
