Hurdle plots St David’s move

St David's-bound: Hurdle

Kevin Hurdle, the fast bowler, has been linked with a potential move to St David’s County Cricket Club.

It is understood that Hurdle, who represented Bermuda at the 2007 World Cup in the Caribbean, is contemplating leaving his present club, Flatts, and venturing farther east to play for the defending Eastern Counties, Premier Division and Lindos Twenty 20 champions.

He has been spotted training with the Islanders at Lord’s on more than one occasion, with Wendell Smith, the St David’s coach, said to be licking his lips over the prospect of adding Hurdle to a bowling attack that already boasts the likes of George O’Brien Jr and Justin Pitcher, the fast bowlers.

St David’s officials have remained tight-lipped on the matter, while Hurdle could not be reached for comment.

However, reliable sources have suggested that Hurdle’s move to St David’s is imminent, with the club waiting only for the player’s paperwork to be completed to pave the way for him to play.

The only way that Hurdle would be eligible to play for St David’s would be if Flatts agree a loan until the sixth week of the season or, failing that, if he applies in the second late transfer period that commences at the end of next month.

It is understood that Hurdle is due to meet with Flatts officials this week when it is expected that he will announce his decision.

Should Hurdle decide to go through with the move, he will be latest of several Flatts players to leave the club this season. Flatts were hit the hardest during the transfer window, with six of their players joining new teams.

Vernon Eve, the left-arm spinner, and batsmen James Celestine and Maurice Lowe have all moved to Southampton Rangers, the Belco Cup, Logic Knockout Cup and Western Counties champions.

The trio of Durnell Smith, Paul Carr Harvey and Hewvonnie Brown have also opted to move on to Devonshire Rec in the First Division.
