Teen racks up $3,000 in fines
Nineteen-year-old Jamil Simmons, of Glebe Road, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to speeding at 66 kph on June 13, driving without a valid driver's licence on April 26, driving an unlicensed cycle on May 27, speeding at 76 kph at Middle Road, speeding at 58 kph on February 27, driving without a valid driver's licence on February 27, and speeding at 63 kph on March 16.
Senior Magistrate Will Francis fined him $280, $200, $100, $450, $240, $100, $250, respectively.
In addition, Simmons had previous fines of $400, $370, $150, and $500. Mr.
Francis gave Simmons until the end of May to pay the fines.
THIEF NABS AIR COMPRESSOR, SPRAYER CRM Thief nabs air compressor, sprayer A Harrington Sound Road, Smith's Parish businessman reported the theft of air compressor equipment on Sunday.
He said he left the Hausfield Air Compressor and Accuspray spray gun outside of the building at approximately 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Despite its being heavy and rather cumbersome to transport, he noticed that someone was able to remove it from the premises when he returned at 2.30 p.m.
TV TAKEN FROM THEL'S CAFE CRM TV taken from Thel's Cafe Police are probing the theft of a television from a Sandys Parish restaurant sometime between Sunday evening and yesterday morning.
The owner of Thel's Cafe, on Somerset Road, reported a break-in sometime between 7.30 p.m. on Sunday and 6 a.m. Monday.
She said she opened the cafe on Monday morning to find that someone had removed a 19-inch television set from the kitchen area.
Following an investigation of the premises, a Cambridge Court man was arrested and conveyed to Somerset Police Station where he is assisting Police in their inquiries.

Sixty-four-year-old Manuel Moniz, of Middle Road, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to impaired driving.
Crown counsel Leighton Rochester told the court that at 11.46 p.m. on October 16, Police saw Moniz driving erratically on South Road, swerving and crossing the middle line.
When stopped, Police noticed that his breath smelled strongly of intoxicants.
He admitted to having a two or three drinks.
Moniz was then taken to Hamilton Police Station and tested at 169 milligrams per 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrams per 100 millilitres of blood. Senior Magistrate Will Francis fined him $400 and took him off the road for 12 months.

A Pembroke man received a $150 fine for trying to take cannabis out of the Island. Twenty-one-year-old Michael Charles Smith, of West Park Lane, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court yesterday to possession of cannabis.
Crown counsel Leighton Rochester told the court that Smith was stopped by a Customs officer at the airport as he was leaving for New Jersey on March 21. A pat-down search yielded nothing. When officers searched his wallet, they found a yellow envelope containing plant material. He was shown the envelope and admitted it contained cannabis and was in his possession.
He was detained and taken to Hamilton Police Station where the contents were analysed to contain 0.151 grams of cannabis.
MAN HITS RIDER, PEDESTRIAN CTS Man hits rider, pedestrian A Southampton man was fined $700 yesterday.
David Samuels, 27, of Fork Lane, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to the charges of driving without due care and driving without a valid driver's licence on August 22.
Crown counsel Leighton Rochester told the court that Samuels was travelling west on South Road behind a pedal cyclist travelling in the same direction.
Samuels hit the cycle from behind, swerved and hit a pedestrian.
The pedestrian received injuries to the right knee while the pedal cyclist received abrasions to the left arm and leg.
The car received damage to the front bumper and grill while the pedal cycle received extensive damage to the rear and front fork.
