A total of six new coronavirus cases were found out of 1,385 test results that came back today, the Ministry of Health announced last night.

There are now 19 active cases with 18 being monitored by public health officials. The other is in hospital, but not in intensive care.

The new cases were revealed as the ministry announced a new page for the Government’s website “dedicated to separating fact from fiction when it comes to getting vaccinated against Covid-19”.

Kim Wilson, the health minister, said it was designed to counter “misleading claims” about the vaccine.

She added: “People need to know that the Covid vaccine is our most promising tool in ending this pandemic.

“They must be guided by science and facts, not speculation and misinformation.”

The jab is said to keep people from getting seriously ill or dying from Covid-19.

Ms Wilson said: “The more people vaccinated, the harder it will be for the virus to spread in our community.”

She reminded people not to arrive too early for vaccine appointments, and to bring photo ID.

Anyone who has travelled within 14 days of the appointment is not eligible.

One case of the virus came last week when a member of staff at the Berkeley Institute tested positive for the virus, The Royal Gazette understands.

A source said the positive case was not a teacher, but that some teachers had to quarantine as a result.

The island’s travel health status for Covid-19 got an upgrade yesterday from the US Centres for Disease Control.

Bermuda was moved from level 4 to level 3, the US Consulate said.

A consulate spokeswoman said: “The Covid-19 risk in Bermuda remains moderate – however the CDC currently recommends avoiding non-essential travel.

“The US Consulate continues to engage with the CDC and State Department, providing updates on Bermuda’s status during the pandemic, safety protocols and testing regime for residents and visitors.”

She added the US Consulate recommended caution when travelling abroad because of the “unpredictable” nature of the pandemic.

The spokeswoman said: “As conditions evolve, the CDC and Department of State will regularly update advice to US travellers.

David Burt, the Premier, said last month the island’s low number of cases deserved a level 2 grade from the CDC.

A total of five of the latest cases were on-island transmissions with known contacts.

One case, a resident with links to earlier cases and no travel history in the last 14 days, is under investigation.

The island’s total number cases stands at 713 and the death toll remained at 12.

A total of 502 cases were said to be on-island transmissions.

The number with known contacts was 410, while 92 had unknown contacts.

A total of 210 cases came in from overseas.

The seven-day average of the real time reproduction number is less than one, and Bermuda’s country status remained at “sporadic cases”.
