Six-storey office block gets go-ahead
Another six-storey office block has been approved in the City of Hamilton.
The development by WJHT Ltd. will be built between Front Street and Reid Street at the intersection with King Street. Existing buildings at 135 and 137 Front Street, 61 and 63 King Street, and 102 and 104 Reid Street will be demolished to make way for the complex.
The site is in the East Front Street section of Hamilton, an area along the harbour which will also house former Premier Sir John Swan's ten-storey Seon Place, and Government backbencher Zane DeSilva's office building.
The Front Street side of the site is currently home to a liquor store and a windows, doors and fencing company. A hair salon, entertainment company and other offices are situated on the King Street side.
The Development Applications Board has approved the planning application 'in principle', on condition that two basement levels of storage space are "for storage uses only and shall function as ancillary storage for the proposed office uses".
Final approval will also hinge on improvements to the pavement curbs at the King Street and Front Street intersection. The developers must also consult the Corporation of Hamilton on sight line improvements on Front Street.
