JUNIOR GOLF GLF While the older boys were receiving coaching lessions last week, Scott Booth in Group Two took full advantage by firing a 43 over 13 holes in BJGA play at Southampton Princess.

Alex Doyle and Jason Correia were six shots back on 49, Doyle pipping Correia on retrogression. Jared Outerbridge led the way in Group One with a 51, four shots ahead of second place Shannon Trott. Justin Simons was a further shot back in third place.

TENNIS TEN Steve Alger brought back memories of yesteryear when he reached the men's final of the Bermuda Lawn Tennis Club Invitational yesterday. The former Bermuda number one defeated third seed Greg Frigerio 6-2, 6-2 before a large crowd at Coral Beach Club.

Frigerio earned the first two points of the match, but was unable to sustain that momentum as Alger roared back to effect the first of four breaks during the match. Despite the scoreline the players put on a dazzling display of power tennis, interspersed with some deft touches.

Alger blitzed five aces, including the final point while Frigerio showed his mettle with four aces, two of which came in the 15th game. When it was over Frigerio admitted that it was "Alger's consistency with his first serve that really kept me out of it, while I just couldn't seem to get my serve going.'' Alger will now face second seed Michael Way in tomorrow's final. Way yesterday disposed of veteran David Lambert 6-2, 6-0. Meanwhile, New Yorker Sandy Cooper captured the first title of the tournament when she defeated fellow American Alice Duff 6-2, 6-2 in the ladies 40s final.
