Top business women get tips on memory
The Chamber of Commerce celebrated International Women's Day by inviting women who have excelled in the workforce.
More than 100 women were chosen to attend the annual event which saw Minister Paula Cox and Attorney General Kim Wilson mingle with prominent businesswomen such as Beryl Brown and top educators like Berkeley Institute principal Michelle Simmons.
Diane Gordon, the Chamber's executive vice-president, said: "We wanted to honoured successful women who 'rock the Rock'! It is important to recognise these women because they do a lot in their jobs, with their families and for the community."
The guest speaker at the event was American author Judy Marcus, who is a motivational speaker and wrote the book "Where are my keys? Memory Training You'll Absolutely LOVE".
Mrs. Marcus uses the LOVE acronym to teach people of all ages ways to build their memory.
She said: "When you meet someone I want you to try and do these four things.
"Look: see their face, listen to their name, use your finger to write their name in your palm.
"Overstate: think of something outrageous about their name, i.e. Arthur. Think of a knight.
"Visualise: picture the outrageous image in your mind's eye on the movie screen right inside your forehead.
"Engrave: repeat this movie image every 20 minutes until it's firmly stored in your brain."
Other tips Mrs. Marcus gave to improve memory included eating healthy foods, exercising for 30 minutes a day, avoiding refined sugars, doing crosswords and learning a new language.
