Alleged burglar caught by residents appears in court
An alleged burglar stands accused of attacking a couple at their Hamilton Parish home who confronted him during a break-in.
Troy Robinson is alleged to have broken into the residence on Wilkinson Avenue around 9 p.m. on Monday, February 22. He was charged at Magistrates' Court yesterday.
Prosecutor Larissa Burgess said the complainants Jeffery Hall, 43, and Helen Hall, 42 were watching TV when they saw a man wearing a helmet and gloves at their back door, which was open. A chase ensued and Mr. Hall managed to subdue the suspect until the Police arrived.
Robinson faces a string of charges in relation to the incident, which left the victims injured. He's accused of entering the home intending to steal, wounding the victims with intent to do them grievous bodily harm and assaulting Robert Smith when he tried to detain him.
Robinson is further charged with stealing a book light and money belonging to Mr. Hall, violently resisting arrest and having articles for use in a burglary namely a screwdriver, utility knife and four pairs of gloves. He did not have to enter a plea as the matter must be dealt with by the Supreme Court.
He must return to Magistrates' Court for a preliminary hearing on March 11.
Meanwhile, Robinson also faces further charges over a second alleged burglary on January 21. He's accused of inflicting bodily harm on his ex, Wendy Hill, when he tried to break into her house on Spring Benny Road, Sandys. He is further accused of stealing her wallet and its contents and smashing a glass sliding door during the incident.
Robinson, a construction worker, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Prosecutor Larissa Burgess said he appeared at Ms Hall's residence and began banging on her glass sliding door. She screamed at Robinson, who wielded a pipe, and he shook the door and caused it to shatter as he threatened to kill her.
Robinson, 41, of St. George's, elected to be tried at Magistrates' Court and Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fixed the date for June 17.
He remanded Robinson into custody.
