Last gasp goal saves Trojans
A valiant second half comeback by Somerset earned them a share of the spoils with Second Division leaders Hotels in this top of the table duel at St.John's Field yesterday.
The second place West Enders seemed headed for their third league defeat of the season after falling victim to a pair of first half strikes from Hotels, but two goals in the second half, including a last minute equaliser saved the day.
Ricky Hill booted the home team into a fifth minute lead, converting from the penalty spot after referee Oral Swan awarded the kick for hand ball.
Then Joey Weeks doubled the advantage a minute before half-time, smashing home a failed clearance.
Response came from Somerset in the 70th minute as Michael Brangman drew them within one, setting up a dramatic equaliser by Andrew Rahman.
However, Hotels lost the services of defensive stalwart Wayne Campbell for at least one match, the veteran sent off after striking out at Somerset's Duval Binns.
Hotels moved to 30 points while maintaining a five point edge at the head of the standings, leading both Somerset and Wolves, with five points needed over their next four games to assure both the title and promotion.
Ham. Parish 0 Wolves 6 Khari Sharrieff, Wolves' two-goal hero in the FA Cup semi-final last weekend, smashed four more at Wellington Oval yesterday to keep them in the hunt for promotion.
The win moved Wolves level on points with second-placed Somerset Trojans, both with just three games remaining.
Wolves led 2-0 at the half with Sharrieff scoring in the 11th and 23rd minutes. The turning point for Parish was Ernest Lathan's penalty miss in the 38th minute when Nigel Burgess saved his spot kick.
In the space of 20 minutes in the second half Wolves added four more goals with Sharrieff completing his hat-trick in the 53rd minute with a low shot past 'keeper Trent Simmons after Nathan Webb had set him up.
Three minutes later Sharrieff added a fourth by scoring inside a post after picking up possession from a weak goal kick by Simmons.
Sharrieff laid on the fifth goal for Michael Dill in the 63rd minute with a cross from the left. The strike came a couple of minutes after Clevon Hill had a goal ruled out for offside when he followed up on Webb's shot which was blocked by the 'keeper.
Vincent Minors made it 6-0 in the 73rd minute when he sidefooted home Hill's cross from the right.
Goalkeeper Simmons was sent off for swearing at referee Irving Simmons after he had been blown down for a foul against Tori Davis outside the penalty area.
Paget 2 Prospect 1 A goal by Lawrence Holder only helped to inspire Paget to fight back and claw their way to victory over Prospect in this Second Division clash at Southampton Oval.
The teams battled through to a scoreless first half before Holder put Prospect ahead with his goal. But Paget stormed back with two of their own.
BAA 2 Social Club 2 Social Club twice came from behind and were rewarded with a draw against BAA on Friday night.
The Green Knights struck early, going up a goal in the eighth minute through Donovan Thompson, before Shawn Laws levelled matters in the 35th.
Meshach Wade looked to have sealed matters when he slotted home from the penalty spot in the 86th minute, but Laws had other ideas, stroking the ball into the net following a left-wing cross seconds before the end.
