Promotion the priority for FA Cup semi-finalists Hood
Robin Hood will look to join a select group of First Division teams to have reached the FA Cup final when they face Dandy Town in the semi-finals of the competition.
Devonshire Colts achieved what no other First Division club has ever managed by lifting the FA Cup in 2007, defeating Boulevard Blazers 2-0 in extra-time, having already won the second tier title.
Hood, the First Division leaders, will also be hoping to have secured promotion to the top-flight by the time they face Premier Division Town on Sunday, March 23 at a yet to be determined venue.
“Our league season will be finished by the FA Cup semi-final and the most important thing for us is getting back up to the Premier Division,” said Darran Reitze, the Hood captain, after yesterday’s draw at the Bermuda Football Association headquarters.
“This will be a nice bonus for us and something to look forward to. It’s going to be very difficult for us against Dandy Town, but we will just be looking to enjoy the occasion.
“It’s a great situation to be in. [The FA Cup] does come secondary for us after the league, though.
“Our next two games are huge against Devonshire Colts and St George’s, back-to-back, so we will forget about the FA Cup for now and just concentrate on the league.” In the other semi-final, North Village will play Devonshire Cougars, who won last season’s competition to complete the triple crown.
Cougars drew 1-1 with Village in Monday night’s league match at Devonshire Recreation Club.
Allan Young, the Village vice-president, believes there is very little to choose between the two sides.
“It was my personal preference to have not been drawn against Hood, although coach [Ralph] Bean might think differently, Young said.
“Hood would certainly come at you for the full 90 minutes and before you know it your backs are against the wall.
“I think it will be a tough and interesting cup tie against Cougars if Monday’s match is anything to go by.”
Young said Village, who are three points behind league leaders Trojans, would be striving to complete a league and cup double.
“We have some big league games coming up and can’t afford to drop any points,” he said. “Then we’ve got the FA Cup to look forward to and it would be nice if we win both.”
Village’s game against Cougars will also be held on Sunday, March 23 as part of an FA Cup double-header.
