Nothing to separate Renegades and Police
Renegades Ladies 2
Police Ladies 2
Runaway league leaders Renegades took on a very dangerous Police team determined not to be on the all too familiar receiving end of a 'Gades thrashing.
Renegades were rocked by Julia Mansfield who rounded the Renegade winger like a hoop around a barrel and sprinted in from half way to open the scoring.
Renegades midfield general Amy Harvey dissected the Police backline. Laura Haynes was the recipient of a finely weighted pass and she scampered through for a sure try before inexplicably running through the dead ball area.
Harvey was not to be denied. She opened up the defence again and levelled the score. Renegades Sue Rebello then got the go-ahead score.
Police settled down, set their defensive line well and then strung together some good runs eating up the yards. Some determined midfield play by iron lady Anna Knapman-Scott playing in her third game of the weekend set up a powerful run by the mighty Kate Brown which saw the lithe center score the equalising try.
Mansfield looked to have slipped by Melissa Field only to be physically thrown to the ground by the ferocious Field. In the defence of Field she was going for the flag but got entangled in Mansfield's shorts and had no choice to pull her down. Aa two-all draw being a fair result.
Teachers Ladies 6
Mariners Ladies 8
Teachers had no less than six players out with sickness, injury or travel commitments but such is the level of camaraderie that several guest players kitted up in the red and black to ensure a competitive game. Mariners were playing their first game without the now departed superstar Michelle Berendt but were looking to continue their winning ways.
In an interesting and often enthralling match, the lead changed hands several times with the Mariners total team effort eventually outlasting a determined Teachers squad 8-6.
Scoring for the Mariners were Fiona Beckerlegge, Amanda "Baby" Swan, Helen Fisher, Jasmine Jones, Maryann Rowlston, Julia Taggett and two tries from Laryssa "Larry" Yuel.
Responding for the Reds were Chernelle Gibbons, Nancy Catiller, Jenny Crawford, guest player Anna Knapman-Scott and two from Tiara Simmons.
