Ipswich boss Keane impressed by Bermuda teenager
Ipswich Town manager Roy Keane was full of praise for Reggie Lambe after seeing the Bermuda teenager impress in his first full match for the English Championship club.
Lambe made his fourth first team appearance for the Tractor Boys in Tuesday night's Carling Cup third round 2-1 victory against fellow Championship side Millwall at the Den.
The 19-year-old played the entire game and twice had opportunities to score his first senior Town goal. His first effort was blocked on the edge of the box while he had another opportunity on the half hour mark which he blazed over the bar. Tomas Priskin also went close with a fierce drive from Lambe's lay-off
Keane's team went into the interval two goals up through Priskin and Gareth McAuley and although the home team pulled a goal back in the second period through Steve Morison Ipswich go into the hat for the fourth round draw on Saturday.
Former Dandy Town man, Lambe, was one of a several youngsters who were handed starts by Keane and the former Manchester United ace said they had played themselves into the reckoning for this weekend's game against Scunthorpe.
"The young boys did well. Reggie (Lambe) and Luke (Hyam) played well, as did young Tom Eastman," Keane told the East Anglian Daily Times.
"Tamas Priskin scored a good goal, Andros Townsend showed his talent and pushed us forward while Luke and Reggie also were impressive.
"It was all pluses for us this evening and I'm glad that we are through.
"Several players have told me, from their performances tonight, that they want to be involved at Scunthorpe on Saturday. So I'll have to take stock over the next few days."
Midfielder Lambe is one of 21 Town players whose deals are up at the end of the season. Skipper David Norris heads a list which also includes defenders Gareth McAuley and Damien Delaney and young midfielder Luke Hyam.
Keane recently said the contract situation was something which the club would be looking to address in the short-term: "That's the priority over the next few months, tying down players like David Norris, who are out of contract at the end of the season."
It was former national team coach Kenny Thompson who first alerted Ipswich to Lambe's potential, having organised for the gifted youngster to travel to Holland to experience the technical and physical demands of the European game prior to him signing for Town.
He made his first team debut for the Tractor Boys in a Carling Cup tie at Shrewsbury back in August, 2009.
Ipswich are currently second in the Championship League and could put themselves in position by the end of the season to be promoted to the Premier League.
