BFA reduce Jennings ban

Former Bermuda skipper Kentoine Jennings has had his six-game ban for swearing at a referee reduced by the Bermuda Football Association’s appeals panel.

The North Village stalwart, who recently announced his retirement from international football, was reported to the governing body after bad-mouthing the referee during Village’s December 28 Dudley Eve Trophy clash with Somerset Trojans at Devonshire Rec.

But according to a statement released yesterday, the veteran centre back has had the sentenced reduced to the ban already served — though he will still be on probation until the end of this year.

Similarly, Social Club’s Andrew Samuels has has had a season-long ban reduced to time already served for the offence of threatening behaviour and attempted violence towards the referee during their clash with Ireland Rangers last November.

Meanwhile, Irving Burgess of Hamilton Parish has been given an eight-game ban for swearing at a linesman as well as threatening gestures during the Hot Peppers’ game with Devonshire Colts on January 7.

PHC Raiders’ Albert Thomas has been banned until December 31 after attempting to strike and swearing at a match official during the game against Tuff Dogs on February 3. He’s also been put on probation until December 31, 2008.

Somerset Trojans coach Dennis Brown has been banished from the touchline for one game and put on probation until the end of the year after swearing at a match official in a game against PHC on December 17 last year.
